The Government of India, during the 1950s, introduced the Craftsmen Training Scheme, under which a series of government-managed Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and privately-run Industrial Training Centers (ITCs) were set up across the varied Indian states. The objective was to develop a pool of skilled manpower resources for meeting the labor requirements of the country’s varied industries.

The ITIs and ITCs are deemed as post-secondary schools; and are governed by the Directorate General of Employment & Training (DGET), the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, the Union Government of India. Presently, in India, there are more than 14,000 vocational training centers that include over 2000 ITIs and over 12000 ITCs.

The management affairs of the technical training centers are overseen by the National Council of Vocational Training (NCVT) that works at the National level; at the state level, the SCVT works as per the NCVT’s guidelines.

Pemerintah India, selama 1950-an, memperkenalkan Skema Pelatihan Pengrajin, di mana serangkaian Lembaga Pelatihan Industri (ITI) yang dikelola pemerintah dan Pusat Pelatihan Industri (ITC) yang dikelola secara pribadi didirikan di berbagai negara bagian India. Tujuannya adalah untuk mengembangkan kumpulan sumber daya tenaga kerja terampil untuk memenuhi persyaratan tenaga kerja dari berbagai industri negara.

ITI dan ITC dianggap sebagai sekolah pasca-sekolah menengah; dan diatur oleh Direktorat Jenderal Ketenagakerjaan & Pelatihan (DGET), Kementerian Pengembangan Keterampilan dan Kewirausahaan, Pemerintah Persatuan India. Saat ini, di India, ada lebih dari 14.000 pusat pelatihan kejuruan yang mencakup lebih dari 2000 ITI dan lebih dari 12000 ITC.

Urusan manajemen pusat pelatihan teknis diawasi oleh Dewan Nasional Pelatihan Kejuruan (NCVT) yang bekerja di tingkat Nasional; di tingkat negara bagian, SCVT berfungsi sesuai dengan pedoman NCVT.
